How much does it cost to import a car from Korea
The price of the car in Korea is only part of the cost. Below is everything you pay for, in the order you pay it. You know the full delivered cost before the purchase.

What the delivered price is made of
Ten components, grouped by where and when you pay them.
In Korea
Car price
The dealer's listed price or the amount won at an Encar or KB Cha-Cha-Cha auction. You set the upper limit.
Export and transport to port
Deregistering the car in Korea, export documents and transport to the port of Busan or Incheon.
Sea freight
By container or RORO ship, insured during shipping on request. Roughly:
- ROROPLN 5,000-8,000
- 40 ft containerPLN 9,000-13,000
We recommend a container for cars over PLN 100,000, premium cars and electric cars in winter.
On-site inspection
We recommend it for cars over PLN 100,000: 30-40 photos, a test drive and paint thickness measurement. It costs PLN 800-1,500.
At the port of clearance
Duty
0% for cars made in Korea, based on a proof of origin (EU-Korea agreement). 10% for others, e.g. a BMW or Mercedes from the Korean market. Calculated on the car price plus transport to the EU border.
VAT
In Gdynia 23%, calculated on the customs value plus duty and excise. In Rotterdam 21%, calculated on the customs value plus duty.
Customs agency
Handling the clearance at the chosen port. You know the amount from the settlement after clearance.
In Poland
Excise duty
You pay it in Poland. The rate depends on engine size and drive:
- Engine up to 2000 cc3.1%
- Engine over 2000 cc18.6%
- Hybrid up to 2000 cc1.55%
- Hybrid 2000-3500 cc9.3%
- Electric car0%

Transport in Poland
From the port to your address. You pay for it in Poland.
Our commission
You pay it as a deposit after accepting the car, and after the purchase the deposit becomes the commission. The commission is fixed and you know it before signing the agreement. We refund the PLN 599 gross advance for the search and online checks when we complete the purchase.
What the final amount depends on
We'll calculate all of this for the specific car before the purchase.
Car price
Duty, VAT and excise are calculated on the car's value, so a higher price also raises the taxes.
Country of manufacture
A car from a Korean factory has 0% duty, while e.g. a BMW or Mercedes from the Korean market has 10%.
Port of clearance
Gdynia with 23% VAT or Rotterdam with 21% VAT.
Shipping method
RORO is cheaper, while a container protects the car better. The difference is usually a few thousand zlotys.
Engine size and drive
They set the excise rate - from 0% for an electric car, through 1.55% for a hybrid, to 18.6% for large engines.
Car condition
The more damage, the lower the price, but the higher the repair cost.
