What makes up the delivered price of a car

14 September 2026 · 2 min read

The auction price is only the beginning. Before the car stands outside your home, auction fees, transport, duty, taxes and our commission are added to it. Below we list every item so you know what to expect.

Costs in the USA or Canada

  1. Car price - the amount for which we win the auction. You set it in advance and we don't go above it without your consent.
  2. Auction fees - the auction house's commission (Copart, IAAI, Adesa, Manheim) and extra fees. They depend on the car price and are known before the auction.
  3. Transport to the port - a car transporter from the auction yard to the port. The further from the coast the car is, the more it costs.

Shipping and customs clearance in Europe

  1. Sea freight - by container to Rotterdam, including unloading. A pickup or a large SUV takes up more space, so it costs more to ship than a saloon.
  2. 10% customs duty - calculated on the customs value, that is the car price together with the cost of transport to a port in the Union.
  3. 21% VAT - the car is cleared in Rotterdam, so you pay Dutch VAT, calculated on the customs value plus duty.
  4. Customs agency - handling of the clearance and unloading of the container at the port.

Costs in Poland

  1. Excise duty - you pay it in Poland, and the rate depends on the engine: 3.1% up to 2,000 cc, 18.6% above 2,000 cc, for hybrids 1.55% up to 2,000 cc and 9.3% from 2,000 to 3,500 cc, while electric cars have 0%.
  2. Transport to you - a car transporter from Rotterdam to the address you give.
  3. Our commission - a fixed amount of PLN 3,600 gross for imports from the USA and Canada. You pay it as a deposit before the auction, and if we lose the auction, the deposit comes back to you or stays for the next auction.
Tip

Duty, VAT and excise duty are calculated on the value of the car. So every PLN 1,000 more at the auction also means a higher amount in taxes. That's why we agree the maximum bid with you based on the full delivered cost, not the auction price alone.

Additional services

If the car needs repairs or the documents need translating, we can take care of it: sworn translations, an assessor's report, repairs at a partner workshop, adaptation to type-approval requirements. These costs depend on the car, so we quote them separately.

When you know the full cost

Before the auction you get a free quote of the full delivered cost from us. Some amounts depend on the price at which we buy the car, so before the purchase they are estimates - but with no hidden items.

You'll find details and current rates on the pages Costs of importing a car from the USA and Costs of importing a car from Korea.
